Welcome to the NYC Teaching Collaborative Admissions Portal! 

THE NEXT NYC TEACHING COLLABORATIVE COHORT WILL BEGIN TRAINING IN JANUARY 2026. THE APPLICATION WILL OPEN IN SPRING 2025.  Please be sure to review the important information below outlining the eligibility and program requirements to participate in the NYC Teaching Collaborative (NYCTC). 

Eligibility Requirements for the NYC Teaching Collaborative:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum final cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0*
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Eligible to work in the United States or have renewable work authorization through July 2028**
  • Have never been certified to teach at the early childhood, elementary or secondary grade levels OR completed a program that would lead to certification in the U.S. or U.S. territories
  • Never started pre-service training in any of the following alternative certification programs: NYC Teaching Fellows, NYC Teaching Collaborative, Pathways to PE or Teach for America (TFA)

*GPA minimum is required by our university partners, as per NY state regulations. Applicants with a final cumulative undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 ARE ELIGIBLE to apply to the NYC Teaching Collaborative. Candidates with an undergraduate GPA below 2.5 will not be accepted UNLESS they can also submit proof of having a master's degree and a GPA in that master's degree of at least a 3.0. 

** If you are currently in the United States on a visa, you MUST have U.S. Employment Authorization Documents before the start of training in January. The NYC Public Schools does not currently sponsor individuals for U.S. visas.

Program Requirements for the NYC Teaching Collaborative:

  • FULL-TIME training commitment from mid-January through early June. Full-time is defined as 7am to 4pm each weekday from mid-January through early June. Training will take place in a NYC public school that will serve as a NYCTC Training Academy. Skill Building Sessions (SBS) take place one or two evenings each week during the training period.
  • The understanding that a stipend (not a salary) will be offered during the NYCTC training period. Only upon successful completion of the training and accepting full-time work as a NYC Public Schools teacher will you earn a salary and benefits.
  • Pursuit of a master’s degree in education at a university that will be assigned by the program. The average time to complete the master's degree is 2 to 3 years.
  • Partner Teachers must find and secure a full-time teaching position in their certification area in a NYC public school that is on the NYCTC Eligible Schools List.
  • The NYC Teaching Collaborative program and training will be taking place in-person in NYC public school classrooms. Each university partner will determine at a later time if their graduate coursework will be completed in-person, remotely or in a hybrid model.

Candidates must meet all academic requirements before being assigned to a specific subject area.

  • Bilingual Education in Spanish (Grades 1-6)
  • Students with Disabilities - Bilingual Extension in Spanish (Grades 1-6)
  • Students with Disabilities - Bilingual Extension in Spanish (Grades 7-12)
  • English as a New Language (Grades K-12)
  • Biology (Grades 7-12)
  • Chemistry (Grades 7-12)
  • Earth Science (Grades 7-12)
  • Physics (Grades 7-12)
  • Science Immersion (Grades 5-9)
  • Mathematics (Grades 7-12)
  • Mathematics Immersion (Grades 7-12)
  • Students with Disabilities-Generalist (Grades 7-12)
  • Moderate/Severe Students with Disabilities Generalist Grades 7-12 in District 75
