Please be sure to review the important information below outlining the eligibility and program requirements to participate in the NYC Teaching Fellows 2024 cohort.

Application Period:

January 18, 2024 - February 28, 2024 - EXTENDED TO March 13, 2024

Subject Areas Currently Available for the NYC Teaching Fellows 2024 cohort: 

Applications received after February 28th will only be considered from candidates eligible to teach the following subjects:

  • Spanish Language/Spanish Immersion (Grades 7-12)
  • Students with Disabilities–Bilingual Extension Spanish (Grades 1-6 & Grades 7-12)
  • Sciences (Grades 7-12)/Science Immersion (Grades 5-9)
  • Mathematics/Mathematics Immersion (Grades 7-12)
  • Bilingual Education in Arabic or Russian (Grades 1-6)

Eligibility Requirements for the NYC Teaching Fellows 2024 cohort: 

  • Bachelor's degree conferred by May 31, 2024 
  • Minimum final cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0*
  • Fluent in written and spoken English 
  • Eligible to work in the United States or have renewable work authorization through July 2026**
  • Have never been certified to teach at the early childhood, elementary or secondary grade levels in the U.S. or U.S. territories
  • Never earned a bachelor's degree or master's degree that could lead to teaching certification in the U.S. or U.S. territories 
  • Never started pre-service training in any of the following alternative certification programs: NYC Teaching Fellows, NYC Teaching Collaborative, Pathways to PE or Teach for America (TFA) 

*GPA minimum is required by our university partners. Applicants with a final cumulative undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 ARE ELIGIBLE to apply to the NYC Teaching Fellows. Candidates with an undergraduate GPA below 2.5 cannot apply UNLESS they can also submit proof of having earned a master's degree with a final cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

**If you are currently in the United States on a visa, you MUST have U.S. Employment Authorization Documents no later than May 31, 2024. Please note that the NYC Public Schools does not sponsor individuals to receive a U.S. work visa.

Program Requirements for the NYC Teaching Fellows 2024 cohort: 

  • FULL-TIME training commitment from June 2024 through August 2024. Full-time is defined as 7am to 4pm each weekday from June 2024 through August 2024. 
  • The understanding that a stipend (not a salary) will be offered during the 2024 training period. This stipend is distributed over the summer months and not in one lump sum. Only upon successful completion of the training and accepting full-time work as a NYC Public Schools teacher will you earn a salary and benefits. 
  • Pursuit of a master’s degree in education at a university that will be assigned by the program. The average time to complete the master's degree is 2 to 3 years. Candidates must meet all university requirements to remain in good standing in the NYC Teaching Fellows.
  • Fellows must find and secure a full-time teaching position in their certification area from a school on the NYC Teaching Fellows Eligible Schools List, which historically has included schools across NYC that are eligible for Title 1 funding and schools in District 75.
  • Each university partner will determine at a later time if their graduate coursework will be completed in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid model.

  • Bilingual Education in Arabic (Grades 1-6)

  • Bilingual Education in Spanish (Grades 1-6) - FILLED TO CAPACITY
  • Students with Disabilities – Bilingual Extension in Spanish (Grades 1-6) 
  • Students with Disabilities – Bilingual Extension in Spanish (Grades 7-12)
