The NYCTF application for the 2026 cohort is now open! The first Early Action Deadline is December 19th. The earlier you apply, the sooner you can interview, get placed, and start changing lives in NYC classrooms.
You must first register an account here in the NYC DOE Teacher Admissions Portal by clicking on the green REGISTER button at the top right of the screen.
You can then begin the NYCTF 2026 application by clicking on the green APPLY button to the right.
Please be sure to review the important information below outlining the eligibility and program requirements to participate in the NYC Teaching Fellows (NYCTF).
Eligibility Requirements for the NYC Teaching Fellows:
- Bachelor's degree conferred by May 31, 2026
- Minimum final cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5*
- Permanent authorization to work in the United States**
- Have never been certified to teach in the U.S. or U.S. territories
- Never earned a bachelor's degree or master's degree that could lead to teaching certification in the U.S. or U.S. territories
- Never started pre-service training in any of the following alternative certification programs: NYC Teaching Fellows, NYC Teaching Collaborative, Pathways to PE or Teach for America (TFA)
- Fluent in written and spoken English
*GPA minimum is required by our university partners. Applicants with a final cumulative undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 ARE ELIGIBLE to apply to the NYC Teaching Fellows. Candidates with an undergraduate GPA below 2.5 will not be accepted UNLESS they can also submit proof of having earned a master's degree with a final cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
**If you are currently in the United States on a visa, you MUST have U.S. Employment Authorization Documents at the time of enrollment showing you have permanent authorization for full-time employment starting in June 2026. You will not be able to obtain employment-based visa status (e.g., H-1B) through the NYC Public Schools in the future.
Program Requirements for the NYC Teaching Fellows:
- FULL-TIME training commitment from June through August. Training will take place in a NYC public school that will serve as a NYCTF Training Academy.
- The understanding that you will receive a taxable stipend during the summer training period. Only upon successful completion of the training and accepting full-time work as a NYC Public Schools teacher will you earn the salary and benefits of a full-time teacher.
- Pursuit of a master’s degree in education at a university that will be assigned by the program. The average time to complete the master's degree is 2 to 3 years. Candidates must meet all university requirements to enroll in and remain in good standing in the NYC Teaching Fellows.
- Fellows must find and secure a full-time teaching position in their certification area at an NYC Public School on the NYC Teaching Fellows Eligible Schools List.
- Each university partner will determine at a later time if their graduate coursework will be completed in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid model.
